Career-up Subsidy helps the contract employees to acquire new skills and upgrade their position

キャリアアップ助成金 (Career-up Subsidy) is the subsidy for startups and companies trying to enhance the career development for the part-time/contract employees.

This subsidy is provided by Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare,
and has 7 courses to apply for.

  1. Contract employee → Regular employee
  2. 2% salary up for ALL the employees
  3. Additional medical checkup for 4+ employees
  4. Revision of wage regulation
  5. Revision of employees’ benefits among contract workers
  6. Increase of base wage among contract workers
  7. Increase of working hours among part-time employees

For the details, please read the p.6–8 of the guideline.

Depending on how big (or small) the company is, the amount of subsidy given to the company is different.

For example, a small and medium enterprises (including startups) can receive 570,000 yen if they upgrade one of the contract employees’ position to a regular employee.

In addition to 570,000, if your company improve 6% of the “productivity” compared with 3 years ago, the amount per employees increases to 720,000 yen.

The “productivity” can be calculated with the formula below;

(Operating income+HR cost+Depreciation+Office rent+Tax dues)/the number of employees with employment insurance
